Opinions. Everyone has one. Opinion is a three-syllable word that when someone gives one that offends everyone, and it seems to offend the person giving it if no one listens.
With today’s internet, anyone can give everyone their opinion instantly, no matter what time of day it is. One of the main problems with that is people seem to spout off their opinion without thinking about whether it is offensive, dirty, or just plain stupid. I emphasize that last one because I have a tendency to say and write things before I think about whether it will offend someone, or just show my ignorance on the subject. If you don’t really know a lot about the subject you should probably just keep your mouth shut. Benjamin Franklin is quoted as saying: “We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.”
Wow! The media today is loaded with so much ignorance that we probably should charge twenty-five cents for every meme that is published. If we did, we could probably pay off the national debt in a day and a half. People are being paid to come in to situations and give their opinions – on any subject – even if they know next to nothing about it.
Celebrity opinions. You shouldn’t get me started on this one. Highly paid fools want everyone to know their stance on anything going on, anywhere, anytime. People that are paid to entertain you are of the opinion that you will believe them on any subject. Politicians believe that; they pay celebrities for their endorsements on all matters of state. If famous celebrity A gives his (or her) endorsement to a candidate, the lowly general population relies on that opinion so much, that they will go all with and vote in that candidate, or that political stance. The general population should remember that quote from Benjamin Franklin.
Luke 12:1b-5: “Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.”
For the Christian population it is no better; they tend to follow along with their favorite celebrity’s opinion without forming one of their own.
What did Christ say about people following the crowd, about not listening to other people about their opinions?
Christ did not just say to be afraid of God; he said to be in awe of the God that has the power over Heaven and Hell. Christ was not talking of just spiritual matters; he was speaking of your entire lifestyle. We are aware of lifestyles of a lot of celebrities, and politicians, for that matter. Those are the people you should not be in awe of. In the long scheme of things, their opinion could be your undoing.
Remember, it is everyone else’s right not to have to listen to your opinion.
