Is New Necessarily A Bad Thing?

Recently I read an article from a brother that was very inciteful. I was a little bit flustered when I read it. The gist of the article was that we should stick with the old paths, which is good; but it was like he was saying that anything new at all is not good for the church.

How is it remotely possible that all things new are bad. I mean, the moment we accept salvation everything, (I mean everything) is new. In fact, we are new creatures so it is an inherent fact that everything should completely change.  “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things become new.” – 2 Corinthians 7:1.   “And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” – Ephesians 4:24.

Following the path of our Christian forefathers is what we are striving to do, but there is nothing in the scriptures about using new methods to get the gospel out. It would seem to me that any way we can get the true gospel is the correct procedure. We cannot turn back to pharisaical in our attitudes and ways. Some of our forefathers were not as sanctimonious as you pretend they are. Some owned slaves – are you wanting to take that up again? I will use an analogy that my mother used to use – if all of your forefather jumped off of a bridge, would you go do that too?

One of the things I saw in the article was – we should not be projecting words of hymns up on our video screens. Aren’t we getting just a little bit picky here? Tell me, scripturally, where it says “thou shalt not show words to music on a screen where the whole congregation can see it?” I get it – it is a new thing! I will tell you from my point of view – I am old! I cannot see the words in the hymnal because the printing is so small. Should I and everyone else in the same boat stop congregational singing because we don’t know the words by heart?

I get it – some new things are an abomination to the Lord. There are churches and congregations that have gone overboard trying to appease young people and keep them in church. The things they have done have unilaterally swept those congregations into something that no longer represents God who made and controls the universe but glorifies the humans that are running those congregations. Those are numerous and all around the country and the world. Glorifying man and the world that is controlling man.

With all the humanism that has invaded the church, let’s leave the little mundane things like not holding a hymnbook individually, or someone is not wearing a tie or maybe clothes you don’t necessarily approve of – let’s give that type of thing a rest. If God is being honored, please don’t worry about that little infraction (that’s only in your mind anyway) alone.

God is still in control, so don’t try to be His co-pilot! Let Him handle it. Just keep praying for the new young churches out there and let God do the rest.

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints,” – Ephesians 6:18

“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of this book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” – Revelation 22:18-19

If anything has been added to or taken out of the Bible, you don’t have to worry about, because God already knows and has everything in perspective. He know all about it, “and we’ll understand it better by and by!”

Great ! I enjoyed all of it and you hit the nail on the head about new things. I feel like as long as the man of God ( our pastor or anyone else who stands behind the pulpit) preach or teach the word. We all have bibles that we can see exactly what they are teaching. I encourage everyone to take your bible to church so you can read along. Sure some things are overboard in the churches today and we may need to address those areas where needed.
