Misnomers (or This Does Not Mean What You Think It Means)

We Americans are so used to messing things up we don’t even remember what and why we mess things up. For instance, we continue to butcher our own language. Beautiful words that made up part of our language have been relegated to the gutter. The word gay used to mean lighted and carefree, now of course, the number one definition in the dictionary is homosexual. I guess gay sounds better than sodomite.

   We base our language today on making things sound better than they actually are. We like to make ourselves feel better as we pervert the law of God. Did you notice how the word gay started getting worse in connotation but the word sodomite started getting better? From sodomite to lesbian or homosexual to gay. To get “politically correct” we want to make everyone and everything sound better than it actually is so that everyone no matter what they think, feels good as a member of society. Everyone wants to be accepted and since God is no longer welcome in society they should feel good about themselves since the laws of God are no longer valid.

   The first time this happened, God repented of the fact that He had even created man:

   “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”

   “And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at this heart.”

   “And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.”  Genesis 6:5-7

   If it had not been for the fact that Noah found grace in God’s eyes, all of civilization would have been destroyed. You would not be here.

   Not only do individual words get slaughtered, even good ideas get out of whack. Man, or woman, come up with a good thought – something that could possibly help mankind, then some evil gets into that idea and perverts it to something that the original person that came up with the idea would probably never dream of it getting so out of hand.

   Let’s get controversial now – look at the word and thought of feminism.

I believe the original ideas were to give women the right to vote and equal pay for the same type of position. Boy, has that been perverted beyond all recognition. The word feminine means “having qualities or an appearance associated with women, especially delicacy and prettiness.” I do not think any of the feminists I have seen or met even come close to that description.

Feminism has devolved down to a cliché of “it is my body and I can do with it what I will”. What this has to do with the right to vote I do not know, but let’s just keep on devolving into a society that rebels against everything to do with God and His Word. Let’s sacrifice everything we humans were created for. Let’s go back to the days that we sacrifice our own children to the gods of this world.

   “Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,”

   “And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.”    Psalm 106:37-38 

   I try to be as concise as I can in my thoughts and not just ramble on. When you get long-winded, people tend to drift off. That same principle applies in writing. I get angry when I think of these things. I see people perverting the laws of God and I want to just say “STOP IT!” Then I think of all the souls that are going to Hell (an actual, factual, real place) and I go back to Christ weeping for Jerusalem. If you can just see what Christ sees for a bit, all the ones that are lost, dying, already condemned. Please Lord, help us to get someone to look to the cross today, before it is too late!

Definition of misnomer

b: a wrong name or inappropriate designation The name “Greenland” is a misnomer, since much of the island is covered by a massive ice sheet.

  I suppose that you could say calling a sodomite “gay” is a misnomer.  I would tend toward using the word lie.  Any softening of the English language to make sin sound not so bad is just lying to ourselves so that we can continue in our own wickedness and lusts.

Let’s talk about the word affair versus fornication.  Which one sounds worse?  An affair sounds like a nice little frolic down some beautiful pathway while fornication doesn’t quite have that same softening effect.  

Abortion versus slaughtering/sacrificing innocent babies is another term we as a progressive society have used to excuse our own sickness.  

How about glutton versus overeating? I know, I know, I went there.  Sorry, but this is actually what God calls it.  I could do this all day.  We want to live in our own filth, and call it a palace, but calling a pigpen a palace doesn’t make it stink any less.

We need to start calling things what the Bible calls them.  Use the definition of the Bible.  Is it “offensive?”  Um…yes, that’s called conviction.  Conviction is what causes repentance.  Repentance is what causes change.  If we want to change society we have to share truth because only the truth of God can truly change man’s heart.  

Dad talks about the word feminist, and I try to stay away from talking about feminism.  I have a tendency to say things that will offend every woman in America in about 3 seconds flat.  I hate feminism with an absolute passion.  Feminism is an anti-woman, anti-God, disgusting, filthy organization; and the ideas of feminism have spread to infect every corner of American culture.  It’s everywhere.  Everything I read in God’s word about how a woman should live runs so vastly counter culture that it scares me.  I personally don’t think the feminist organization was ever a good idea.  Not for one minute of it’s beginning until this very day.  I’ll eventually get around to talking about how feminism is completely destroying the fabric of humanity at a later date, but for now just remember that feminism is the opposite of feminine.
