Courage

Special Edition

Well, I could not be more proud. I am also glad someone else in the family wants to get involved. My 11 year old granddaughter has a little extra something to say in this special issue on courage. Please read and let her know what you think!

Courage by Carah

Is courage facing your fear, or is it more? Webster defines courage as being able to control one’s fear and so to face danger, pain or trouble willingly;  bravery.

Gladys Aylward was a missionary to China from 1936-1970.  During Gladys’s  work in China she faced many dangers.  Being a missionary in China was very dangerous.  She had to go into a prison and stop a riot.  Japanese soldiers bombed the city where she was living.  She had to escape the city, and she helped many children escape from the city as well.  Later, she had to bring over 100 children to safety.  During their travels they thought the Japanese would capture them. They had to travel over cliffs, cross the Yellow River, and walk over snow covered mountains.  They finally reached a train, and started traveling on the train; but then, they stopped far from the city they needed to reach.  If the train had gone any further it would have been in Japanese territory, so the conductor would go no further.  Gladys and the children had to travel the rest of the journey by foot.  When they reached the city there were so many refugees that they couldn’t take them all in.  They had to journey even farther to another city. When they reached that city they were finally allowed in.  Gladys Aylward’s entire life shows her courage.

Corrie and Betsy Ten Boom lived during WWII.  They were captured because they were hiding Jews in a secret compartment in their house.  They knew the dangers they were facing, and they still kept doing what was right.  The hardships they faced at Ravensbruck Concentration Camp were immense.  While they were at the camp Betsie died.  Before Betsie died, she told her sister that before the year was done they would be released.  God had shown her theywould both be released.  Betsie would go to live with the Lord Jesus Christ, and Corrie to help millions of lives.  Betsie and Corrie showed great courage through all of their pain.

Who gives fear?  GOD says, for GOD hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7. So if GOD doesn’t give fear who does? Is it Satan, or man? Who?  Anything not of God is of Satan.  Satan gives the spirit of fear.

Courage is facing our fear. Don’t give in to the fear of Satan.  We can have courage.  It’s in the Bible.  Look it up!
