Sometimes in this life, as Christians, we get a feeling that something else is needed, that we are someplace we do not belong. We go about doing our jobs and our ministries, and after a while it feels like it is time to move on. I think it is mainly about the fact that upon salvation we have different desires.
“But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.” Hebrews 11:16
We are still citizens of whatever country we are from, but our main emphasis is now upon our new relationship with the Eternal One. Like anything else in our human existence we get antsy. We know something is there, and it is ours, but sometimes we get the old Burger King philosophy that we want it our way, and now.
I get the logic that the older we get the more we wish for Heaven, but sometimes we transfer that feeling of wanting this change so much that we get frustrated with our surroundings here. Do we stay where we are? Do we move on to a different location? Do we just need a change of scenery? Do we leave the familiar for the new and unfamiliar? What kind of thing gets into our brains that makes us want to push a “reset” button?
Today I changed light bulbs above the bathroom sink. I can now see to shave. I am not sure what kind of bulbs those were but above the bathroom sink is not where they were meant to be. Those bulbs had been above the sink for two and a half years! The area is so much brighter that it is almost unreal. I think maybe we are like that: we have been somewhere for so long a time that we are no longer useful where we have been planted. We need to reset ourselves into a new situation, one that gives our particular wattage the right location to do the most good.
I will get political for a moment, so forgive me. Take our President, for instance (please, take him). I think maybe the bulb needs to be changed in that one. It seems that bulb has outlived its usefulness. I am just saying that it is time for the guy to step aside and let sometime who has a little more wattage take over.
Where is your citizenship? I mean your true home? If you have been born again by the blood of Jesus Christ, your home is in Heaven. All that have been saved will meet there together one day. In the meantime, is your bulb in the right socket? Are you shining where you should be shining, and as bright as you could be?
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
