I Can’t Do What a Lightening Bug Can

Everyone of us has a different gift. Some of us can do great things; others cannot. We all have abilities, even though some of them are untapped and not realized or nurtured.

In nature, there are creatures that attract other creatures (for mating purposes, or just for lunch) in many different ways. The anglerfish have lures in their mouths that have a luminous glow; the glow sort of mesmerizes its target and gobbles the target up while it is still in a trance. Female giraffes urinate near potential suitors, who in turn drink said urine to see if this female meets his expectations. Lightening bugs (you can call them fireflies if you must) light up their butts to attract females. The point is that every creature uses something to attract others.

We as humans are not generally trying to attract others so that they will have dinner available; in the majority of cases we are probably just trying to get someone to go to lunch with us.

I know I am trying to get to the point of this article in a very roundabout way but bear with me for a little longer, because this is not the type of attraction that I am trying to convey.

How do you get a point across to someone? In general, conversation is the best way to go about that. The problem I have is not being able to have one on one conversations easily. The mode I have of relating to people is through the written word – that is how I try to communicate my ideas. I have been told by some people that I am relatively good at getting points across this way. Granted, that was mostly my mother, but it is a lot easier this way than trying to come up with thoughts in front of another human being. If someone says something to me, I can answer, but I have to think about it for a few days before I can come up with a reply. Conversation does not work well that way.

The article so far has absolutely nothing to do with the subject I would like to convey with my writings, other than the fact that you need something catchy to get people to read anything nowadays. What with television, phones, and tablets in almost everyone’s grasp you have to have something to call peoples attention to what you have to say. If you have read anything that I have written so far, you know that I will eventually get around to saying something about Jesus Christ and the fact that He is my Savior. We should not have to hem and haw around it, but most people, if they see that the writing is about Christ, will stop reading and go on to something else.

Since I have brought the subject of Christ up, I will have to quickly end the article, because you will stop reading it too. I will wrap this up with the words of Paul, taken from 2 Thessalonians and 1 Timothy:

“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you; And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for all men have not faith. But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.”   2 Thes.3:1-3

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”   1 Tim. 1:15

     And, as an added bonus:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”   John 3:16,17
