I do not know about you, but as Christians, we should, as much as is possible, be full of the joy that is in Jesus Christ. If you know that you have eternal life, and that you will soon be moving into your permanent home in Heaven – you should not be letting the trials of this temporary housing situation get you down. With this in mind, what is it that gets us into pits of depression, anxiety, and just general blaah? Could it be that you and I have unconfessed sins? Isn’t that the blockage that interrupts our communications with God?
“And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.”
“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”
“If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:”
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
“If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:”
“And he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
“And hereby do we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.”
“He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.”
“He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” – 1 John 1:4-10 & 2:1-6
I am talking of myself, but this applies to all Christians – if we say we are Christians, we ought to walk, talk, live like someone who actually knows the Lord. I do my best, but fall short daily. Therefore, I need to ask forgiveness daily. If I do that I can keep communications up with my God. I can have the full joy that John was writing about. I think God gets glimpses of the old man coming out in me – I have to call daily for that forgiveness that covers all my sins with the blood of Christ. God cannot look upon us if the darkness of sin is hiding the light.
“…because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.”
– 1 John 2:8b

P.S. I am familiar, I know there will be times when you feel as far from the light as you have ever been, but when you get knocked down in life keep your eyes on the narrow path that takes you to the light source. Christ is always there. He never moves. Remember that somehow, some way, you have been knocked off of the path. The path is narrow and you cannot stay on it without God’s help. I know it is hard to get back to the place you thought you should be or need to be. Don’t let Satan (or the world) keep you in the dark. Reach back to the light.
