Real Hope

2nd in series of book of Psalm

1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

*Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

3. His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

Psalm 61

          “Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”  (1-2)

         When I have any problems, when I am burdened, all I have to do is climb up on the rock that is higher and bigger than all the things that are troubling me.

         “For thou hast been a shelter for me and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of they wings. Selah.”  (3-4)

God has been a hiding place for me in times past, keeping me from satanic forces which are around me always. I can trust that, just as a mother hen to her chicks, I will always be under the protection of his mighty arms. (Selah in the bible is from the Hebrew and the main definition I was given is that it means forever!)

“For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name. Thou wilt prolong the king’s life: and his years as many generations.” (5-6)

         God hears my prayers and I have the heritage and family of all those that reverence the name of God. I am not a king, but am a child of the king. Therefore I am under his protection and a heritage in his house for years to come.

         “He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him. So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.”  (7-8)

I will live now and forever before God. I will be preserved because of his mercy and truth. So because of his love, his grace, his mercy, I will sing to him; because of him I am able to do my daily tasks in confidence and peace.

         Christian, this is where our hope lies, in Christ alone! Because he lives, I can live forever!
