It is a new year, and there is so much to say with only a little short article to say it with. I do not know how this will end up, but let’s see how much I can pack into this edition. There are several things bouncing around in my head so if I chase rabbits just go on the hunt with me.
The very first thing is the English language itself. If you look at the title, there are a couple of words in there that are spelled exactly the same way, but have two different meanings. We will get into those meanings later, but why and how did this ever come to be – the same spelling for two different words? I think we would have been better off if we had just invented something like the African tribe that communicated with the clicks and inflections of the clicking sound. We could still have done the language but at least had some sort of signal when you had two words that are spelled exactly the same way. In the case of content vs content, we could have for content, said the word and while saying it, raise your arm above your head and pointed east or something like that; for content, we could just wave your hand, palm down, real smoothly, signifying contentment. We have a whole English vocabulary of similar situations, which confuse everyone trying to learn the language. I need to go back in time and give the first people that spoke English a few tips. We would all look like baboons today if I had my way,
Ok, enough digression for today, Let’s get on with the actual article. Like I said, it is a new year and we have to get on with life. It seems I need to articulate more what these writings are about. We do delve into the political arena sometimes, but our blog is about living as a Christian in a very secular society. That is the reason we do get into politics sometimes. The main objective of the blog is, as introverts, we have trouble saying to others in person, or, we have trouble focusing and have to have a little bit of time to think of the things we want to tell people. That is especially true in being a witness for Christ. I want to say things to people something but if I say it without thinking about it – it always comes out wrong, or even hurtful. This most important conversation you can have with other people, their relationship with Jesus Christ – not something to be flippant with or to be taken lightly. Foot in mouth disease does not go well with this important conversation.
To get to the heart of this particular article, being content with the content of your life – the only possible way to do that is to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Every day of your life is important, and there is only one way to live it in contentment:
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
We need guidance in this life, and the only one that is eligible to guide you through life is the one that created you to begin with. We need God’s help and wisdom as a constant stream to guide us through this life. The more we get away from God and into the philosophies of society, the harder it is to follow the path that God lays out for you by keeping in contact with Him.
As and example, let’s look at something a little old fashioned – two tin cans on a string. I am that old that I have played with them before! Some of you probably don’t know what I am talking about. If you attach one end of a string to a tin can, and the other end of the string to another tin can, you can talk into your can, give the other can to a friend who puts his ear up to the other tin can – he can hear you (at least go into two separate rooms and close the door)! The catch: the string has to be very tight for the sound vibrations to be able to travel! The moral of this little example is – your connection with God has to be tight. You have to have that connection with Him. If you let anything interfere with that connection, you will not be able to communicate with Him.
In this new year, to be content with the content of your life, keep your lines of communication with God free from the interferences of this society that we live in. Keep reading His Word to find out how He would like you to live. Keep praying, and pray with a clear heart and mind (which cannot be done if you are always deep into the culture of today). Be faithful to Him and His word. He will be here for the faithful soon!
“I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of this world.”
“I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.”
John 17:14-15
