Get on the Housetop

When my children were growing up I used to read them a story about a badger and his wife. The badger, according to his wife, could do nothing right. She yelled at him constantly. He could do nothing right. No matter where he went, she followed after him yelling and nagging. Finally, the only way he got any peace was to climb up on the roof and go to sleep under the stars. The moral of the story was Proverbs 25:24

“It is better to dwell in the corner of a housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.”

In other words, no matter how big the house is, life would be better to just get away from the house altogether than try to live with such a contentious woman.

In our society today the right wings and the left wings have taken on causes and mentalities 180 degrees from each other. There is a right wing party that wants to take up arms and shoot anyone that comes through their door, and there is a left wing party that wants everyone else to think exactly like they do or be removed from society altogether. So, normal people are stuck in the middle with mouths open, not believing what is going on with both radical factions.

Look at it this way. Remember tug-of-war at summer camp? There was a mud pit in the middle and each team puts big players on each end. In the middle were the smaller kids. So as the big, loud kids on the end were pulling back and forth on the rope, the little kids in the middle kept getting coated with mud. This didn’t happen at camp, but just imagine you get a whole lot more smaller kids on the middle. If you get enough, you could probably have pulled both ends of the spectrum down into the mud. If you could get all those big, loud kids in the mud, I am pretty sure it would have shut them up for awhile!

We know, as Christians, that we are on the precipice of the end of the church age. We can see that both ends of the political spectrum are pretty much off the deep end, dragging the normal populace through the mud – trying to shut us all up. We also know, as Christians, who the victorious are after the battle is over. It will be us. We will be coming back with Christ to reign with him.

What I am saying is, don’t worry too much about it. Christ is victorious!

We may have a few hardships here but eventually, after the battle is over, there will be peace. It will be worth it all.

Sometimes the day seems long. Our trials hard to bear,
We are tempted to complain, To murmur and despair.

But Christ will soon appear to catch his bride away! All tears forever over
In God’s eternal day!

It will be worth it all
when we see Jesus!
Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ.
One glimpse of his dear face, All sorrows will erase.
So, bravely run the race
till we see Christ.

If you have to, climb up on the roof once in a while after dealing with all the crazy people and philosophies in this world, but keep on fighting. The battle is coming to a close.
