New Things

Don’t we all just love new things? Say, for instance, a new car. We get in the car and the smell is even new. Then, over time, the car gets dirty, it has to go in for repairs and we get apathetic with it. Anything new is the same way; we are looking forward to this new purchase, but after we get it the newness wears off and it gets old and familiar – we get tired of it and apathetic toward it.

We act that same way with personal relationships. After a while we have apathy toward others that we know. That is a major reason of why there are so many divorces in this country today. When the relationship is new, we just llloooovvveee each other, but after a time we get tired of relationships just like we do with things – because we are treating relationships just like we do our things!

What would you say if I told you that you could have something new in your life that never gets old? It always keeps renewing itself. If you have this thing it could make you satisfied with things that you have, and more importantly, it could give you satisfaction with your personal relationships! It could help prevent divorce (some divorces), it could help prevent child abuse. It could stop child trafficking! It could help stop jealousy! It could stop prejudice of any kind!

What is this miracle you ask? It is the miracle of the Gospel of Jesus Christ found in the Holy Bible! I am talking about the entire set of 66 books! I am talking about the whole thing from cover to cover! The book that sets down laws for man to try and keep, and knowing that man does not have enough in him to keep these laws it tells of the Jesus Christ who was born of a virgin, who lived a life without sin, was hung on a cross, was buried and rose again on the third day! Jesus Christ, who, knowing no sin, became sin for us and paid the debt for all our sins.

This Jesus, this Jesus of the Bible that from cover to cover points to his coming, and then his death, burial, and resurrection, and then continues to point to his coming again. He is the miracle that is pointed to in those boring genealogies that we complain about going thru in Deuteronomy and Numbers, and then again in Matthew. Those things that we do not like to go thru tell of the lineage where Christ comes thru a long line of regular people, just like you and me who have all sorts of problems, some of those problems being the kind we don’t even care to talk about.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ. The entire Bible points to it. The problem is, there are people out there of modern persuasions that are presenting a new gospel, a gospel that does not center around Christ. A gospel that gives man a pass on sin so man will feel good about himself. John said it in Revelation

22:18-19 –

“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:”

“And if any man shall take away from the word of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and form the things which are written in this book.”

For those of you that think all roads lead to heaven, that no matter what god you believe in will get you there, please remember this – God is Love, but that love cannot meet with sin, that is why Jesus came – to give you a way to an out and cover your sins with his blood. We are not all going to be in a Utopian state someday, Christ came to divide us up, father against son, mother against daughter.

“The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.”                         Luke 13:53

New things – you can be a new creature in Christ! You can have a new thing that will never get old. You will never get tired of it. The relationship is new every morning! Days will no longer be drudgery! Even when you are alone, there will be a friend beside you!

“…and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

                                                                             Proverbs 18:24

The thing that you must remember is, you can have all this peace, all this contentment, all this fulfillment – but there is only one possible way to get it.

“Jesus saith unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”       John 14:6

I Can’t Feel at Home Anymore

Old things are passed away, behold all things are new.

My treasures are laid up, somewhere beyond the blue.

The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door,

And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

This is the first verse to an old song that I sing whenever I think about being made new.  It’s such a beautiful reminder that we are a new creature and that we are to walk in a new path.

II Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.

This week, let’s work hard to ensure that we are walking in that new path.  Out with the old in with the new!

Create in me a clean heart, oh God, and renew a right spirit in me. Psalm 51:10
