The trouble with religion is that there is nothing personal about it, anything or everything can be your icon, your god. That is why we, as professed Christians strive to tell everyone that they need a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the risen savior who paid the penalty for your sins.
I repeat, the trouble with religion is that anything or anyone can be your god. I have seen that recently in the reactions to the last election. People were putting all their trust and hope into their presidential candidate. No matter how he lost, whether it was cheating or not, the rhetoric and name calling that has gone on from our side brought us down to the same level as the other side in our speech, which does not exemplify the way a Christian should be reacting. God allowed it to happen. God has a specific purpose and plan. Amen. Get on with the business of the church – witness, send missionaries, uplift the brethren.
We are not residents of this world anymore anyway. We should be living above the world. We are already residents of Heaven. We are here temporarily trying to give away more tickets to get in the most opulent of all timeshares, which we will be able to share for all time.
Sure, sure, I know. The stuff that goes on in the world drives you crazy. YOU DO NOT LIVE HERE, THIS IS JUST WHERE YOU ARE STAYING. I know some of us live in a version of Motel 6 and others live in a high quality Hyatt-Regency situation, some even live in tents or cardboard boxes, but eventually when we finally arrive home,we will be in the most excellent of all situations. As an old song said, “This world is not my home, I’m just a-passin’ through!”
I get depressed sometimes, I really do. I just want to go home. That is called homesickness. How can you get homesick for a place you have never seen? That is something I cannot explain, it is just there. Even the apostle Paul got that way. He got depressed in prison (anyone would) and wished to go on to Heaven, Philippians 2:23-24 :
“For I am in a strait between two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:”
“Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.”
Paul wanted to go, but he realized that his presence in the world was more needful to the church, more needful for the furtherance of the gospel.
So, let me end my article this way – the election is over. We are not Trump’s, we are not Biden’s, we belong to Christ. Church, continue Christ’s business, and as the world continues the downhill slide it is on, keep rising up toward Christ. The clouds are approaching!

and continuing…
Jan. 20, 2021 President elect Joe Biden was sworn in as the president of the United States of America. President Donald Trump left office, and many friends were visibly shaken. I have friends who were absolutely livid, friends who were overjoyed, and then I even have friends that think that it really doesn’t affect our day to day lives no matter who is president, and so they were more or less unconcerned.
Has anyone noticed that when Trump speaks he is rather pompous? He brags continually about how great he is, and how great everyone he appoints to any office is, how great America is, etc. I understand that he did some wonderful things while in office. He was used by God to get many nations to agree to sign the Abraham accords peace agreement and that alone is a miracle. God used Trump to do some amazing things. I don’t think I ever heard him say that God was doing these amazing things. He was a Nebuchadnezzar, and we need to understand that. We should stop worshipping Trump and be thankful for all the policies that were enacted because God willed and God allowed.
Wow! I think I just lost half of my friends. I should probably stop talking and keep the rest of them, but…
Are you still reading? Great!
If Donald Trump was Nebuchadnezzar, then what in the world does that make Biden/Harris? It’s a bit early to tell because of course “The heart of kings is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” Proverbs 21:1. If I were to venture a guess I would say that Biden/Harris term is going to be more like Ahab/Jezebel. Pure malice and hate towards all that is good while fully embracing evil. If you think I’m making that up please go and read their campaign page. Last I checked it was still up. Love is Love is blasted across the page, and apparently no one is bothering to check God’s word to see if that is truth or just a twisted way of making wickedness seem acceptable. Has anyone listened to Kamala talk about “women’s rights/my body my choice.” “My body, my choice” only applies to my right to kill the innocent because I can’t use that excuse for anything other than that. Health rights are becoming public policy, not individual rights. Have you seen several of the bills that have been proposed now that we have a new president? Go read. It’s fun.
So, now that I have alienated everyone I know, I would like to say this very important thing. Many of us have gotten caught up in the wrong things. We’ve spent too much time in entertainment culture. We haven’t spent time reading and learning, and understanding how our government works. We put all our strength and faith in voting for our president once every four years, and maybe in state elections, but never on a local level. We have lost America because we were busy watching sports, the Kardashians, Hollywood’s latest filth, or playing video games. We have heads full of useless knowledge, and we have lived our lives far from our first love.
It’s time to admit that we have idols. Some had Trump, some had Biden, some are still worshipping Trump when he is no longer president. Some just worship culture and entertainment. Many are hoping against all reason that maybe somehow good will win out over bad and Trump will save the day. That my friends is idolatry.
I’ve read the words. I know our hearts. I have felt the sadness that you feel when you see that today evil wins. Guys, our hope is not where it should be. This hurts my heart to see all this despair. Yes, evil sometimes does win. But this is not the end. Let’s jump straight to worst case scenario. Christians are jailed and massacred, all countries are communist, the anti-Christ reigns, evil is celebrated, that is worst case scenario, and we still win. Heaven and home are waiting. We have so much for which to be thankful. Tell your friends and family about God’s love. Tell them he is waiting, and that he won’t wait forever. Tell them about Hell and about eternal separation from God. Tell then He is coming again!
